a dog is the only thing on earth that loves you more than he loves himself.
How to Adopt.
First Step: Submit Your Application
True North does not issue blanket approvals, we consider the needs of each specific dog when reviewing applications. If you don't have a specific dog in mind when applying, please note this on your application so that we can keep this in mind when reviewing.
We require home photos for all applicants, but can accept a video replacement. Please enter as much detail as possible on your application, this helps us better understand what you are looking for and how this relates to the needs of the dog you have applied for.
For puppies under 12 weeks, we require a care plan. This includes a plan for when the dog will be left alone, as puppies younger than 12 weeks should not be left alone longer than 2-3 hours at a time.
Please Note: Due to the high volume of applications we receive, it is not always possible to reply to everyone. If your application is approved, you can expect the following.
IMPORTANT: Please do not apply if you are unsure, or not ready to schedule a meet and greet within two weeks of submitting an application.
Second Step: Application Review & Approval
1. If your application is approved, an email will be sent connecting you with the dog's current foster. At this time, you may schedule a mutually convenient time to meet.
2. After meeting, you have 24 hours to confirm if you would like to move forward with finalizing the adoption. After this, if we have not heard from you, we will begin scheduling other meets.
3. If you choose to finalize, we will issue an adoption contract via email.
Once the signed agreement has been electronically returned along with the adoption fee (which will be disclosed prior to adopting), you will be all set to coordinate for pick-up with the foster!
Adoption Fees:
Our adoption fees are comparable to those found amongst other well-known rescues in the city.
We only accept electronic payments for adoption fees.

Health/Medical Records:
All dogs are fully vetted, this includes age appropriate vaccines, microchip, and spay/neuter.
While many of our dogs are sterilized prior to adoption, those that are not, can be scheduled at our ASPCA Partner. The cost for this procedure is included in your adoption fee, and we offer monthly appointments on a rolling basis.
Medical records will be sent as an E-file after a completed adoption. Physical records can also can be picked up at our monthly adoption events in Brooklyn, NY.
Out of State Adoptions:
Out of State adopters are always welcome. However, while we do adopt out-of-state, adopters are required to travel to meet and pick up their new dog.
We do not provide assistance with transport and cannot reimburse for any medical expenses (vaccines, microchip, sterilization) that are completed outside of our approved partners. These costs would be the adopter’s responsibility in this case.
